Attentive Behaviors Part 1

Attention is the act of concentrating on one or more aspects of an environmental task that requires the ability to multi-task sensory  processing input.

Types Of Attention

Children who have sensory processing disorders often have deficits with attending behaviors as well.

As caregivers, we all primarily tend to wish for sustained,   focused on task behavior during  self-care, school, and play. However, there are different aspects of attentive behaviors that  need to work together.

Focused Attention and/or sustained attention may be described as the ability to direct and focus cognitive activity on a specific task.

Task Organization may be described as the ability to gather, sequence, or arrange multi-step parts of  a task into a meaningful whole

Task Maintenance  generally refers to the ability to remain “on task” without loss of focus, distractibility, or ability to refocus once distracted in order  to bring a task to completion .
